Almost two decades ago, The Necessary Stage (TNS) presented Mardi Gras and Top or Bottom, two of Singapore’s seminal LGBTQ plays. This year, the company returns with Old Gaze, the third and final instalment of the series, which promises to be a cheeky, wild and fun-filled ride!
Written and directed by Cultural Medallion recipient and Resident Playwright of TNS, Haresh Sharma, Old Gaze feature some of Singapore’s most well-loved stage luminaries as well as fresh faces. Hossan Leong, Kumar and Rody Vera will be back to reprise their roles in the original two LGBTQ plays, and they will be joined by the fantastic, Siti Khalijah Zainal, alongside theatre veteran Liow Shi Suen, and newcomers Azura Farid and Medli Loo.
In Old Gaze, Faith (Hossan Leong) and Hope’s (Kumar) lives are turned upside down when an old friend shows up suddenly. The episode sees them entangled with everything from spies to their personal histories—all whilst they navigate through becoming seniors themselves and experiencing incredulity at complicated gender pronouns.
