The Singapore Lyric Opera once again brings opera to the outdoors on 17 June 2017, 6pm, at the Shaw Foundation Symphony Stage at The Singapore Botanic Gardens.
Celebrating the 10th season of its outreach programme to bring the opera experience to a wider audience, the collaboration with the Singapore Botanic Gardens removes the formal barrier of a traditional opera setting, and encourages audiences to have a picnic with their family and friends while soaking in the music. This falls in line with the vision of Singapore’s Ministry of Culture, Community and Youth, who has been actively investing in facilities and programmes for Singaporeans to fully engage in the arts and culture.
The programme line-up for this year offers a selection of classical favourites such as Rossini’s La Gazzetta, O lusinghiero amor, Mozart’s Le Nozze di Figaro, Voi che sapete, and Puccini’s Gianni Schicchi, O Mio Babbino Caro. The line-up is carefully curated to celebrate the Music of Our Youth and embodies vitality and the young spirit. There will also be other popular favourites including Donizetti’s L’elisir D’amore and Verdi’s Aida.
The Orchestra will be led by Singaporean conductor Joshua Tan, and it will also feature winners from the Open and Junior categories of the SLO-Asean Vocal Competition 2016 – Izen Kong, Zhang Jie, Melissa Hecker (12), and Lauren Yeo. The SLO Chorus and Children Choir will also make a guest appearance at the concert.
