From 1 July to 31 July 2019, The Fullerton Hotel Singapore will exhibit a new collection of artworks by Mr. David ST Loh, an author and photojournalist from Penang, Malaysia. Entitled “Over Penang + Beyond”, the photography exhibition showcases 27 pieces of aerial images that capture the rich history, vibrancy and beauty of Penang and its neighbouring islands within Malaysia. More than that, the exhibition serves as homecoming for David as a Penangite who had left the island 30 years ago.
David is known for his aerial photography via the use of drone, also known as the “eye in the sky”. Using a drone, David scours places that might hold interesting terrain, landmarks and features. Apart from capturing visually striking photographs, he ensures that these photos have a story to tell. To date, David has photographed countless sights and scenes mainly in Southeast Asia. Through his artworks, he hopes to offer fresh perspectives on the mundane and inject a splash of life into it.
When asked about the inspiration for his work, he quips that he sees himself as a messenger who observes, captures and delivers images that are engaging to the public. This exhibition symbolizes a discovery of his hometown through an eye in the sky. With that, he has found places he never knew existed and has since broadened his literal world view and perspective.
