Over thirty of Atchugarry’s sculptural works, made in a range of different media will be exhibited, alongside a significant selection of masterpieces by important artists in the gallery. In addition, with the support of Singapore Tourism Board, five of Pablo Atchugarry’s monumental sculptures will be displayed along Orchard Road.
Pablo Atchugarry (b. 1954 in Montevideo, Uruguay) is a renowned South American artist. In the early 1970s, he experimented with cement and iron in his sculpture before exhibiting in various cities in South America. By the end of that decade, Atchugarry had travelled extensively in Europe and started sculpting in Italy. It was here that he added the timeless material of Carrara marble to his repertoire, drawing inspiration from the stone to exhaust the formal possibilities that illustrate the artist’s vision. Like fellow Uruguayan artist Joaquín Torres-García, Atchugarry’s work is an exploration of geometric forms and bridges between his home, the New World, and Europe through his own visionary comprehension.
Specially selected to be exhibited alongside Pablo Atchugarry’s sculptures, expanding the context of his oeuvre, is a display of works by Modern and Contemporary Masters. The exhibition will showcase the extraordinary artistic innovations that have defined the history of art, presenting works by early pioneers of Modernism such as Marc Chagall, Salvador Dali, Pablo Picasso, Joan Miro, Claude Monet, and Henri Matisse. Pop art legends Andy Warhol and Tom Wesselmann, as well as Contemporary Masters Fernando Botero and Manolo Valdes, will also be exhibited.
