Pacita Abad: Common Ground is an exhibition featuring works by the celebrated Philippine artist Pacita Abad.
As the first female artist to undertake a residency at STPI, Abad’s fearless experimentation pushed the limits of print and papermaking. At a moment when Abad is receiving overdue global recognition, the exhibition revisits her groundbreaking 2003 residency at STPI’s workshop. This includes rarely seen works alongside two of her iconic trapunto paintings from her Estate, highlighting the bold experimentation and cross-cultural dialogue central to her practice.
In Singapore, she is best known and loved for transforming the Alkaff Bridge into a rainbow of colours and circles—a monumental public artwork that has become an iconic landmark along the Singapore River. Drawing on the rich artistic traditions she encountered through her extensive travels, Common Ground offers a window into Abad’s colourful life and philosophy, where her works speak with renewed urgency to issues of culture, identity and diversity that feel especially needed and resonant today.
