Parallel Collaborations features two series of collaborative paintings by Alba Escayo (Spain), Kim Kei (USA) and Yeo Shih Yun (Singapore). Singaporean-based artist Shih Yun Yeo and Alba Escayo from Spain combine ink and silkscreen into a record of visual conversation. Escayo and Yeo began creating collaborative works in Slovenia in 2008 at Lendava Castel artist residency. They continued their dialogue four years later in Singapore. Yeo also collaborates with Los Angeles based artist, Kim Kei using ink and monoprint to form an improvisational exchange. Kei and Yeo began working collaboratively seventeen years ago while studying at the San Francisco Art Institute. The first of numerous collaborations for Yeo.
The works of Parallel Collaborations become witness to shared experience and exchange. The varied painted marks are the residue, a vessel holding the artists’ conversation. Collaborating in this manner allows each artist to step outside of oneself and inhabit, mimic, react, and invert. The combined creation is an act of empathy and shared contribution spanning decades. The works featured in this exhibition are works on paper, prints as well as paintings on canvases. Parallel Collaborations is on view from 2 May to 29 July 2018. An opening reception will be held on Wednesday, 2 May from 7 – 9 pm. Artists will be present at the opening reception.
