In his second solo exhibition, Eng Joo Heng presents new work produced during his residency at the NAFA Studios @ Cité Internationale des Arts in Paris, France over six months. The famous Seine became an obsession in his time there, centred around L’île Saint-Louis and L’île de la Cité, the two islands in the river beside L’Hôtel de Ville.
Eng spent time along its banks, from July of 2023 to New Year’s Day six months later, sketching and painting the scenic riverside cityscape of Le Marais district in Paris’ 4th arrondissement. The paper he brushed the inked drawings onto grew increasingly longer as he sought to capture even more of the Seine’s length as the weeks passed.
