“Parrots Unleashed” is a visual immersion into artistic lifelike creations of human sized parrot paintings by Tang Ke, who captures the playful essence of these magnificent birds, through color, posture, movement and mischievous attitude. These parrot portraits are painted directly on transparent film made of PET plastic, which gives the artist advantages of presenting the full potential of the elaborate pigments.
Parrots, outlandish creatures in their spectacular feathery attires, have always fascinated humans. Emperors and Kings (Alexander the Great, Song HuiZong, Henry VIII), Empresses and Queens ( Queen Isabella, Marie Antoinette, Queen Victoria), politicians (Winston Churchill, Theodore Roosevelt, John F. Kennedy), musicians (Mozart, Iggy Pop), poets (Mi Heng), artists (Frida Kahlo) and even Hollywood celebrities (Elizabeth Taylor, Stephen Spielberg, Angelina Jolie) admired and kept parrots as their dear companions. Throughout centuries, dazzling looks of parrots were immortalised in various artistic media, including wood, metal, glass, charcoal, oil, watercolour, photographs, ceramics, sculpture, etching etc., with each artist aspired to capture the most subtle, most evanescent manifestation of these glamorous dandies and quaintrelles.
