Abu Jalal Sarimon, 2017 UOB Painting of the Year (Singapore) competition Gold Award Winner, explores the boundaries and responsibilities of being free to express one’s thoughts. Be it through his imagination, ideals and interactions, Mr Sarimon encourages viewers to evaluate the hidden meanings behind each of his artwork.
A graduate from the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts, Abu Jalal enjoys working with acrylic as a medium as it allows him to create a variation of texture and strong lines through layering. Beyond the bright colours and seemingly simple and candid compositions, Mr Sarimon believes that each artwork is an avenue to share and challenge the viewer’s natural and pre-conceived perceptions of our diverse worlds with its distinctive cultures. Through his artworks, he hopes to create an engaging conversation with his viewers. His works had been exhibited in Singapore, China, Japan, Taiwan, Korea, Dubai, Iran, Thailand, Vietnam, Hong Kong, Macau, Netherlands, Indonesia, Malaysia, Brunei and most recently Italy.
