Peter & Blue’s Birthday Party

Photo: Bernie Ng

This June holidays, Singapore Dance Theatre (SDT) will be presenting its annual children’s ballet Peter & Blue’s Birthday Party from 8 – 11 June 2017 at the Esplanade Theatre Studio. Choreographed by Artistic Director Janek Schergen, this is an hour-long ballet production which brings together the magic of fairy-tale and delightful dancing.

Along with children’s activities such as meet-the-characters, photo-taking session, and balloon sculpting, this is a perfect opportunity to spend quality time with your kids on a fun-filled family outing!

One sunny morning, Peter wakes to his long awaited birthday. His dog, Blue, and cat, Calico, were puzzled and could not understand the fuss about a special celebration; why should anyone be treated special on their birthday? After all, in their case, they expected to be treated that way every day! But for Peter, his birthday meant a big party, exciting presents, delicious food, and for no one to tell him what to do for that day. It was his birthday and the whole day is meant to be a celebration!

Along with Blue and Calico, Peter invites all his friends from the forest to his birthday party. One by one, Peter’s friends arrive, each bearing a gift for Peter’s special birthday celebration. The first to arrive were the Dragonflies, and then the Apple Blossom Girls with the Blueberry Boys. Butterfly, as the leader, brought all the flower fairies and tree spirits.
As tradition would have it, Blue and Calico led off the festivities with dancing and games. At one point, all the boys disguised themselves as animals to play a surprise on the girls. Peter appeared as a tiger, and all the boys had a fun game together.

Afterwards, it was time for the birthday cake and presents! At the end of the party, Peter’s friends said farewell, but Peter made them promise that it would not be long before they planned to meet again and have yet another adventure together. It was Peter’s perfect birthday!
