Confluence Art Space is honoured to present “Poetry in Motion”, a landmark feature of 45 masterpieces by 2009 Cultural Medallion recipient, Ang Ah Tee. Consisting of an ensemble of creations from over five decades of practice, Poetry in Motion boasts of the most extensive review of artworks by the artist in an exhibition to date. The showcase includes rare oils from the 1970s and 1980s, early mixed media works, Ang’s renowned acrylics, and recent ink paintings. To celebrate the occasion, Confluence Art Space has published a catalogue (right) that documents all the works in this exhibition. A 1962 graduate of the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts, Ang Ah Tee has developed into one of Singapore’s most esteemed second-generation artists. Among his teachers at the Academy, Ang was most influenced by Georgette Chen and Cheong Soo Pieng, two pioneer painters who were masters of brushwork and colour. Poetry in Motion alludes to Ang’s gestural painting strokes, a defining characteristic of the artist’s oeuvre comprising of a myriad of styles painted using a variety of mediums, which culminate in his lyrical compositions.
