After a two-week series of masterclasses, the participants of currents: a masterclass series are now set to present their works at NUS Museum in a prep-room display. Inspired by NUS Museum’s Creative Fellowship with Charles Lim, the masterclass led participants to dive deeper into research experiences and creative concepts relating to islands, while interfacing with archives and informants of Singapore’s histories with the sea. They are guided by university collaborators A/P Hamzah Muzaini, Wong Zi Hao and artists ila, and Marvin Tang.
The display, featuring Abdul Latiff Bin Hamzah, Ang Rui Jie, Thaddeus, Chan Yi Qian, Daniel Liu, JX Soo, Kendra Thaddaeus Tang, Lu Yixin, Sarah Noorhimli, Young Wei Ping, and Zhai Qiutong, showcases a range of image, video, object, sound, and text-based works-in-progress. The prep-room display reflects the participants’ research and academic backgrounds, delving into themes such as the sea as a governance infrastructure, representations of seascapes, and identities within island cultures.
