The Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts, University of the Arts Singapore presents Prismatic: Ang Ah Tee, an exhibition showcasing 40 recent works of illustrious NAFA alumnus and Cultural Medallion recipient Ang Ah Tee. Held from 24 August to 4 September at The Ngee Ann Kongsi Galleries, the exhibition marks his 17th solo exhibition and fourth at NAFA. Audiences are afforded insights into the artist’s ongoing evolution in his artistic practice that is based on intensive observation, research and experimentation.
81-year-old Ang defies age with his boundless energy that propels him to create, travel, and challenge himself to push boundaries. Driven by an insatiable curiosity, Ang is always in search of new approaches to materialise ideas, and does so by experimenting with different mediums, techniques, and expressions. This latest exhibition is a testament to his courage and persistence, revealing a sense of free-spiritedness and emotional intensity, carried by vibrant colours and gestural brushstrokes, conveying stories close to his heart.
Ang’s works demonstrate how the subjective brings power to the arts, evoking empathy and inspiring contemplation. His depictions of landscapes, people, and memories, serve as a conduit between past and present—connecting generations through history and stories that provide catalysts for discussions.
