SPRMRKT presents “Pure Days: Art & Life” by Art Is Gallery & Artist Studio. The collection of work by Alessia Levonique C., Liu Ling and Tracy Tan, will be exhibited from 26 May to 26 July 2016 after the opening reception on 25 May, from 7pm to
9pm.
Alessia, Liu Ling and Tracy believe that art in its purest form is intrinsically linked to life — only made distinct by how it manifests. Drawing inspiration from nature, they have endeavoured to understand and represent the beauty in the most ordinary of things. It is hoped that viewers themselves can also discover beauty in simplicity as they encounter these art pieces, and be transported to the state of peace and tranquility that the artists were in as they were creating art.
Having enrolled in courses at the Studio and refined their technique under the tutelage of artist-mentor Raphael Koh, what will be unveiled in their first group exhibition is a collection of oil paintings, charcoal drawings and photographs borne from what they have been taught collectively, while showcasing the distinctiveness of what art is to each of them.
For Alessia, verisimilitude is not just mere stipulation, but an obsession. She is enchanted by how 2D renderings can transcend the restriction of its flat surface to fool the eyes into believing in its 3D world. Her oil paintings reflect a patient rendering of reality as a result of an intimate observation of life and accompanying self-discovery.
Inspired by nature’s beauty and mystique — particularly the complexity of humans — Liu Ling’s charcoal and pen drawings strive to capture life in her subject. Each artwork is a meditative effort to inject emotion into an observable shell through the rigorous and enlightening process of learning from experience.
Tracy intends for her photographs to exemplify the hope and beauty of the world. By exploring the motion of stillness, she wishes for each frame to transport viewers to the streets and landscapes where the stills were taken. While she draws and paints as an emotional outlet, photography allows her instincts to take over and for art to manifest in its rawest form.
