Born in 1954 and native of Asei Island, Lake Sentani in the province of Papua, Indonesia, Agustinus Ongge (or Agus as he is fondly known) is a professional Kombouw tree barker painter whose work continues the heritage of the traditional art form which his people have passed down through the generations. Agus originated the art form his uncle, Seru Ongge, who is a reknowned bark cloth painter whose work is found in the oceanic art collections of museums worldwide.
The works of Agus Ongge have been exhibited throughout the region and in Europe.
Agus Ongge is the Executive Director of a local Foundation that strives to preserve and protect the art and culture of the Sentani region.
