Ren Zhe, The Solitary Wanderer 逸客 (c.2026)
WU MO 武墨, a major public presentation of works by acclaimed contemporary Chinese artist Ren Zhe 任哲, is now on view at the Main Atrium of Paragon on Orchard Road. Sponsored by the Museum of Contemporary Art (MOCA) and presented by Linda Gallery, the free exhibition runs through 15 September 2026.
Bringing together more than 30 art pieces, WU MO spans intimate 45-centimetre zodiac figures from The Enlightened Ones series to a monumental 3-metre sculpture from his signature Warrior series. In Ren’s sculptural vocabulary, Wu (武), the martial spirit, represents self-mastery, restraint and discipline; while Mo (墨), the sensibility of ink, introduces rhythm, movement and the power of empty space. His warriors are conceived not as conquerors, but as guardians: poised, advancing, solitary, contemplative. They give form to a Chinese ideal of chivalry, where strength is measured not by conquest, but by the capacity to protect, endure and remain composed.
In this September, WU MO brings Ren Zhe’s exploration of inner cultivation, moral strength and Eastern aesthetics into the heart of the city. Within this immersive public setting, visitors, collectors and the wider Singapore community are invited to experience these ideas through the physical presence and quiet authority of the works themselves.
