Inside the gallery, mixed-media works by Michelle JN Lim and Tan Seow Wei move fluidly across the walls and present contemporary interpretations of traditional Chinese seal carving.
Positioning the carved stone and its impression at the centre of artistic practice, the artists experiment with seal carving’s various expressions and language through collage, printmaking, painting, and sculpture. In doing so, they take an art form that has historically been relegated as an auxiliary mark in the margins and show that it carries potential to serve as an active presence.
