The Inaugural Visual Arts Centre Students’ Exhibition featuring a hundred and fifty artworks by a hundred art students from 7 December to 11 December 2019 at the Visual Arts Centre Exhibition Gallery. Organised by Visual Arts Centre, the exhibition Salt of the Earth is Visual Arts Centre’s first students’ exhibition where VAC art students are encouraged to create artworks of original idea and inspiration that explores and celebrates the goodness and beauty of life. Over the past year of exhibition planning and preparation, the Visual Arts Centre art students and teachers have worked hard for the art exhibition and they present a diverse range of high quality artworks – a testament of the artistic growth and development of the Visual Arts Centre art students.
The participating art students includes five artists from Very Special Arts – Chuan Yew Eng, Teresa Tan, Victor Lim Wei Liang, Aaron Yap and William Chia. These artists have been enrolled in the Visual Arts Centre Professional Oil Painting and Professional Acrylic Painting art course since 2016 through a partial sponsorship programme by Very Special Arts and Visual Arts Centre. The artists have enjoyed their art learning and has shown professional art growth and development. Artist Chuan Yew Eng said:”The art teachers at Visual Arts Centre are highly skilled and I have grown and developed a lot in my oil painting through their guidance and teaching.” Very Special Arts is a local charity organization dedicated to providing opportunities for people with disabilities to be involved in the arts. Through various programmes, VSA has empowered many individuals with disabilities to become artists and be financially independent through the arts and their art creation.
Salt of the Earth – The Inaugural VAC Students Exhibition will be showcased at the Visual Arts Centre Exhibition Gallery from 7th to 11th December 2019, 11am-7pm daily. Artworks by students will be available for sale during the exhibition with 60% of the proceeds going to the students, 20% donated to the Very Special Arts (ALERT) programme and 20% to Visual Arts Centre to cover the exhibition expenses. The public and VAC students are also encouraged to make a direct donation to Very Special Arts during the exhibition.
