Singapore Art Museum (SAM) presents the inaugural edition of the SAM Access Showcase 2025: common languages from 27 to 30 March 2025 at SAM at Tanjong Pagar Distripark. Dedicated to breaking down barriers in the arts, the showcase themed ‘common languages’ offers an array of programmes and resources that highlight the power of art to connect with diverse communities and foster accessibility to all.
Going beyond conventional museum experiences, SAM Access Showcase creates a safe, welcoming space that amplifies a range of voices through artistic expressions. Key highlights include the launch of the first SgSL Glossary of Art Terms, co-developed with Deaf consultants from the Hard of Hearing community to introduce a new collection of Singapore Sign Language (SgSL) signs for contemporary art terms. Visitors can also experience performances by neurodivergent artists, sensory-friendly programmes, inclusive workshops, activities and discussions that challenge traditional perceptions of community engagement in the arts.
SAM Access Showcase features 7 programmes centred on key themes addressing accessibility in the arts. These programmes are designed to engage and inspire individuals with different abilities and socio-economic backgrounds, and to cultivate art as a shared language and expression.
The showcase features the SAM Touch Collection, a portable, interactive set of artwork adaptations from Singapore artists that enhances the contemporary art experience for the visually-impaired communities and audiences of all backgrounds and abilities. The collection includes tactile reproductions and audio guides that highlight the historical, cultural, and social aspects of Singapore art. A workshop for families with Deaf and Hard of hearing members will focus on collaboration, discussion, and artmaking, strengthening connections through shared creative experiences.
Performances under SAM’s co-creation platform, Art Dose, will be led by ART:DIS associate artists, along with artists Alecia Neo and anGie Seah, and participants from Montfort Care. These sessions offer multiple touchpoints for exploring art as a tool for self-expression and community building.
