Saturdate: November 2025 Edition

This month, we have Saturdate x Women in Film and Photography 2025 activities, with special workshops and photo book community reading by former residents of the Women in Film and Photography programme. For all who missed the past editions, DVD and Art Book Swaps are back, along with Jui Coffee.

NOVEMBER ACTIVITIES
1) How To Grow Things Workshop by Cynthia Delaney Suwito
1.30pm – 3pm
$25 per pax
Register or find out more about the workshop here.

How to Grow Things is a workshop for those who struggle to keep plants alive (although those with green thumbs are welcome too!). Drawing from two ongoing projects in Cynthia Delaney Suwito’s practice: Things/Stuff/Objects and Potted Pots, participants are invited not only to make, but also reflect — on why we keep the things we keep, how they live with us, and how they might continue to grow in other forms.

During the session, participants will create a paper plant from a photograph of an object that they hold close — either in the literal or metaphorical sense of the word. This could be something they always carry in a bag or pocket, or a meaningful item brought from home. Participants will also get to experiment with ways of folding, shaping, and cutting to turn flat images into three-dimensional leaves and stems. This process shifts the perspective of the printed photograph from a two-dimensional record into a sculptural medium.

Come join us in learning a paper crafting skill as well as reflect on the idea of memory, care, and growth through the transformation of everyday objects!

2) Visual Cartographies Workshop by Kathy Anne Lim
4pm – 5.30pm
$25 per pax
Register or find out more about the workshop here.

How do we re-engage with a city when we let the senses guide us? This workshop invites participants to drift, pause, and re-engage with the everyday. More than image-making; photography paired with psychogeography transforms into a way of mapping atmospheres, of sketching invisible connections between space, body, and imagination. Workshop participants will wander through the familiar streets of Waterloo, collect, and reassemble these traces into shared cartographies—maps not of just streets, but also of emotions, encounters, and fleeting impressions.

3) The Photobook Salon by Aparna Nori
All-day
The Photobook Salon is a community reading activity designed to bring together people who love images and curious about photobooks and artist books. In this session, a small set of photobooks from artist Aparna Nori’s personal collection and Objectifs’ library/ bookstore will be shared as a starting point to the conversation.

‘What is a Salon’, you may ask. It’s an informal gathering usually in someone’s home, planned around a simple activity by a host to encourage varied conversations. The Salon is an invitation to slow down for a brief time, explore the tactility and materiality of photobooks, reflect and understand stories from across regions and cultures.

The participants are encouraged to bring along a photobook if they have one in their collection, so the session becomes richer through sharing.

4) DVD and Art Book Swap
All-day
Our swaps are returning from previous editions of Saturdate! Get into the spirit of sharing and inspiration by swapping your pre-loved art books and DVDs for new titles.

How does the DVD Swap work?

Is Ai Weiwei a figure of the past?

By embodying recognisable themes of political dissent, ideological trauma and cultural memory, early Chinese contemporary artists like Ai Weiwei acted as interfaces that helped the West understand China.
