Senses & Lenses is a response to the observation that the average time spent by a visitor in a museum to look at a painting is only 15 seconds. This lack of time spent in front of a work of art, leaves no space to really engage with it and to open oneself to another kind of dialogue – the one that triggers dreams, imagination and a sense of otherness.
The aim of the exhibition is to create a wonderful universe in which the viewer is invited to feel the artworks directly via the senses and the body, through a contemplative and playful discovery, away from the smartphone’s screen. Inspired by the unique know-how of the Special Lenses Unit (SL Lab) of world’s leading ophthalmic optics company, Essilor and the artistic possibilities offered by the optical lenses, Claire Deniau, a French painter who lives and works in Singapore, has made works incorporating 23 special mineral lenses with unique geometries made specifically for these creations.
