Someone once said Singapore is a nation of translators. We have our four official languages, and many more non-official ones. We code switch and toggle between languages all the time. Yet, are we able to truly understand one another, or are things lost in translation?
Now, to put the “multi” back in “multicultural” and “multilingual”, we are starting a national translation movement – SG Translation Month!
Send us your translation of SingLit – fiction, poetry, plays or other literary genre – from Chinese, English, Malay or Tamil into any one of these four languages. The best translations will be showcased during our TranslateSingapore festival in September as well as the National Translation Month in New York. This is a chance for us to read, share and discover new translations while celebrating our many languages. Submit by 4 June 2017.
