Silver Arts advocates the meaningful possibilities that the arts can offer seniors in our community. Organised by the National Arts Council, Silver Arts is now an annual festival that collaborates with community partners to engage and resonate with the lives of seniors through different genres like music, theatre, films and visual arts. Every programme and event has been carefully curated to meaningfully engage seniors through their stories and memories, as well as help them to discover their creative potential.
Highlights in this fifth edition of SILVER ARTS include a musical concert of golden hits from yesteryear at Kallang Theatre; a theatre production where seniors will relive their memories; a specially curated film line-up of Silver Features and Singapore Silver Shorts; interactive musical performances; workshops and a slew of Arts on the Move events at the NLB Plaza. In addition, this year’s Arts in Eldercare Seminar takes place over two days with specialist speakers from the US, Japan and Hong Kong to lead a lively discourse for the integration of arts practices within the eldercare sector.
The festival features a line-up of 40 culturally relevant programmes that will feature more senior talents, greater use of dialects, new commissions and more films by more than 80 artists and arts groups across different ethnic groups at more than 25 venues island-wide.
Silver Arts 2016 will present many opportunities for seniors to showcase their creative talents, pick up a new skill or enhance their well-being through the arts. In the process, we hope to forge better inter-generational understanding and encourage more sharing of stories and memories among seniors and all.
