The Learning Gallery at Singapore Art Museum (SAM) returns with a refreshed lineup of contemporary artworks including David Chan’s Animal Roulette, now made available to the public for the first time in years. New additions by Chen Sai Hua Kuan and Ezzam Rahman join the mix, alongside returning works by Nguan and Cultural Medallion recipient Han Sai Por. In celebration of SG60, this edition spotlights an all-Singaporean artist lineup, featuring eight artworks, including both new commissions and existing works from the National Collection.
Centred on the idea of ‘Childhood’ and its formative role in shaping who we are, the artworks invite audiences to rediscover the world through the lens of curiosity, imagination, and fearless exploration. From a work created specially for the Learning Gallery using bungee cords, to delicate flowers crafted from human skin, the artworks span diverse mediums and offer fresh insights into themes such as identity, home, nature and the environment, people and places, memory, and space.
To celebrate the refresh of Learning Gallery and SG60, SAM will host a free Art Carnival on Saturday, 2 August, featuring family-friendly activities, including a paper camera-making workshop, guided tours, and an interactive activity by Pointy Rice, where you can assemble your own cai fan plate using sticker “dishes”. The event also includes engaging activities by the National Institute of Early Childhood Development (Temasek Polytechnic) Campus.
Established as part of SAM’s continued support of art education, the Learning Gallery is dedicated to the engagement and understanding of broader issues through contemporary artworks. By making contemporary art accessible, engaging, and fun, the Learning Gallery underscores SAM’s ongoing commitment to driving art education in Singapore, sparking positive social change through art and building a better future.
