Organised by MOCA@Singapore and co-presented by Linda Gallery and 33 Auction, the exhibition is a core event of Singapore Art Week 2026 (SAW2026). Bringing together over 90 representative works, it traces the evolution of Singaporean art – from the foundations of the Nanyang Style to later modernist explorations – through the practices of pioneering artists and their successors.
Featuring oil paintings, ink works, and mixed media by Chen Wen Hsi, Cheong Soo Pieng, Liu Kang, Chen Chong Swee, Lee Man Fong, Sun Yee, Choo Keng Kwang, Chen Cheng Mei, Chua Mia Tee, and Tan Swie Hian, this exhibition creates a dialogue between tradition and modernity. It honours these artists’ explorations of materiality and colour, and their enduring commitment to synthesising Eastern and Western artistic sensibilities.
Drawing on collaborations with seasoned collectors from Singapore, Indonesia, and beyond, the exhibition assembles works from diverse sources to form a multifaceted narrative. This approach offers audiences multiple perspectives on the development of Singaporean art, revealing a richness and complexity that no single collection could encompass.
