Solitude – Gui Zhao Hai Ink Painting Exhibition

Organised by Asia Art Collective, Solitude – Gui Zhao hai Ink Painting Exhibition presents a selection of twenty fine works of the contemporary Chinese ink master’s signature series of the Sichuan-Tibetan mountainscapes. The exhibition is open daily from 11am to 8pm, from 5 March 2016 to 18 March 2016, at Visual Arts Centre, 10 Penang Road, #01-02 Dhoby Ghaut Green, Singapore 238469 ( 20 metres left turn from Dhoby Ghaut MRT Exit B)

Gui Zhao Hai’s unique oeuvre emerges from his personal philosophy and affinity with the Sichuan highlands, where he repeatedly travels into. Using his paintings to illustrate his ideals of purity, kindness, beauty and respect for nature, Gui has masterfully captured the sublime presence of nature, composed with the towering monumental mountainscapes, and combined with stark contrasts between light and darkness – evoking man’s contemplation and respect for nature.

About Gui Zhao Hai:

Born in 1974 in Anhui Taihu, Gui Zhao Hai is an artist, writer, poet and calligrapher who resides in Beijing from 1997. Gui graduated from the Beijing Fine Art Academy in 2011, where he studied under Li Xiaoke. He entered the Central Academy of Fine Arts in 2012, where he studied ink painting under Jia Youfu and graduated in 2014. Through his talent and hardwork, Gui emerged as a highly promising ink artist and became one of the few known protégés of Li Xiaoke and Jia Youfu, a third-generation ink painter of Li Keran lineage of painting. Gui has been invited to showcase in prominent national ink painting exhibitions and has won multiple awards for his ink paintings, such as the ‘Outstanding Award’ in the National Chinese Ink Painting Exhibition 2014, organised by the China Artists Association.
