Lovely Companionship Kwek Leng Joo & Lin Lu Zai, 2015

Soul & Sensibilities is an exhibition by eminent photographer Kwek Leng Joo and award-winning China-born painter Lin Lu Zai celebrating their inaugural collaboration. The exhibition opens at the National Museum of Singapore on 22nd of October until 1st of November 2015 and continues at Galerie Belvedere on 6th of November until 30th November 2015.

Lin Lu Zai applies his signature Chinese brush painting to Kwek Leng Joo’s carefully composed images to reveal the soul of nature and tranquil beauty in works created over a year-long collaboration between two artists who have a penchant for nature. The works are transformed into poetic depictions of real life with a touch of sensibility from Lin’s Chinese calligraphy and brush
painting. The marriage of traditional Chinese brush painting and modern day photography culminates in a captivating form of art, exceeding the limits of both mediums.

Kwek Leng Joo (b. 1953) is the Deputy Chairman of City Developments Limited. Despite his many responsibilities, he is also an avid photographer and has contributed the sales of his works and books to many charitable and environmental causes. Kwek is patron and advisor to several major photo clubs and programmes in Singapore. In 2010, he established the Kwek Leng Joo Prize for Excellence in
Photography for the students of Nanyang Technological University’s School of Art, Design and Media.

Lin Lu Zai (b. 1963) is an award-winning China-born artist who graduated from the Arts and Technical College in China’s Fujian Province in 1981. He is an accomplished Chinese brush painter. Lin migrated to Singapore in the 1990s and is currently the President of Aspiration Fine Arts Society as well as Artistic Advisor at Fo Guang Shan (Singapore). He was awarded a Gold Medal and the Olympic Torch for his remarkable work as the only Singaporean invited to participate in the 2008 Beijing Olympic Fine Arts.
