Zhu Yanchun, Sunlight in Weng Shen, 238x179x13cm, Mixed Media on canvas, 2014
This solo exhibition by Chinese contemporary artist Mr. Zhu Yan Chun showcases a comprehensive selection of Zhu’s works, documenting the progress and evolution of the artist’s style and artistic development.
Zhu’s works can be characterised by his rustic, raw landscapes painted with pigments from the actual plants and minerals which he extract on location to create his works. Every piece of Zhu’s work is a creation specific to the locale of his painting materials, a consummate work of art that fuses both the composition and the painting materials to the geography of its creation.
Reminiscent of the bold strokes and primal style of ancient cave paintings, Zhu’s works illuminate with the warm earthy tones, which complements perfectly his compositions of nature like trees, woodlands and forests. With his creative and artistic application of this natural painting medium, Zhu works has also been given an added tactile dimension through the textures created by these raw pigments.
