The Mountain Survey is an investigation of mountainous landscapes observed at various nature reserves in Singapore. Once a vital source of granite during the building boom in the 1970s, these mountains have since ceased their function and taken on a new identity.
The Mountain Survey draws parallels between the historic and rapid ascension of Singapore in relation to its “natural spaces”. With space being its primary resource, the island nation consciously shapes its landscapes to its necessities.
The mountains across Singapore stands as historic testaments and witnesses in the shifts of national agendas. Charting its transformation from a material resource to a manmade phenomenon; redirecting its surveyor’s gaze from the urban reality to a temporary dream.
