Following the successful response to their previous exhibition, Linda Gallery has once again joined forces in collaboration with the two artists Jiang Shuo and Wu Shaoxiang to explore their sculptures in greater depth, featuring several of their latest works.
Jiang Shuo and Wu Shaoxiang’s creativity has been defined by their keen observations of contemporary society, fueled by their limitless imagination. The sculptor duo has been active on the international stage since the late 1980s. Wu Shaoxiang explores the desires of capital through the motif of currency, whilst Jiang Shuo interrogates memory and identity through the Red Guards. The two visions are harmoniously intertwined, creating new narratives concerning power, faith and popular culture in ‘The Myth of the Present World’.
Myth has always been a timeless cultural theme, embodying humanity’s yearning for happiness, power and eternity. Progressively, it has evolved from a faith-based concept into a more obscure projection of desire. Jiang Shuo and Wu Shaoxiang have delivered this using contemporary sculptural theme that is almost absurd yet humorous, revisiting the concepts of ideals, freedom, and wealth in our collective memory.
‘The Myth of the Present World’ juxtaposes the totems of capital, the shadows of history and the miracles of everyday life, inviting us to reimagine the myths we take for granted.
