Join us for a fascinating conversation between a neurologist and an artist, where medical technology and art-making come together. Where does intuition come from? What’s the medical take on what the artist calls Divine providence? How did Guillaume know to not open the gift, and then get it scanned? Why did he chose to call his start up Tyna, then decide to incorporate the image of the scan into the logo, only to discover that in Russian тайна means “sacred secret”? How does Derek interpret these phenomena? How do we all use our brains better?
Dr Derek Soon is a Senior Consultant with the Division of Neurology, National University Hospital, and an Assistant Professor on Clinician track under the National University of Singapore.
Using medical imaging software, Guillaume has played with different settings — which doctors use to look for anomalies in scans — to create a series of works in Le Secret Sacré. The original X-rays from 12 years ago are uniquely exhibited on mobile X-ray viewing lightboxes, as one would expect in a doctor’s office.
