The exhibition, curated by Desmond Mah, examines the complex and shifting notions of home, belonging, and identity through The Other Singaporeans. Within the context of SG60, Singapore’s 60th anniversary of independence, this exhibition rethinks Singaporean identity by featuring artists who are naturalised Singaporeans, former Singaporeans, foreigners residing in Singapore, and Singaporeans living overseas. Instead of reinforcing a singular, state-driven narrative of progress and identity, The Other Singaporeans delivers the experiences of artists at the periphery, those who have navigated displacement, migration, orientation, and cultural hybridity.
