Opera Gallery Singapore announces Julian Casablancas, frontman of The Strokes and The Voidz, as Sound Curator for ‘The Singapore Masters Show 2026’, an exhibition bringing together more than 30 works by leading modern and contemporary artists. Opening from 2 October to 1 November, the exhibition explores the cultural worlds surrounding art and the ways artists have responded to the sounds, ideas and influences of their time. Bringing together works by artists including Pablo Picasso, Andy Warhol, Willem de Kooning, Marc Chagall and Banksy the exhibition considers art not in isolation, but within the wider cultural landscape from which it emerges.
As Sound Curator, Casablancas will curate a series of playlists responding to the exhibition’s four thematic chapters: the Classical Recital Room, Jazz Club, Recording Studio and The Stage. Rather than providing direct musical counterparts to individual works, his selections reflect the broader cultural atmospheres and creative exchanges that have shaped different generations of artists.
The collaboration also reflects a broader premise at the heart of the exhibition: that artistic significance extends beyond the art. Movements emerge through exchange. Visual languages are shaped by people and ideas. Artists borrow, respond, experiment and reinvent across disciplines and generations. In this sense, the exhibition is as much about these relationships and connections as it is about the art itself.
