The act of gifting is as old as human beings. 30 second-year students from Diploma in Design (Object & Jewellery) are challenging the typology of a gift, through discovering, investigating and breaking norms to create their own ideas and stories of a gift.
Guided by design outfit Creativeans, the students will work with laminates by surface design company Admira to design prototypes of their exploration of gifts. Apart from gaining first-hand experience from experts in the field on laminates, students will also have the opportunity to consider the other aspects of design such as feasibility, marketability, and learn how to work with clients who are expecting them to deliver workable designs. The seven-week project is part of Admira’s Corporate Social Responsibility activities to nurture the next generation of budding design talents and promote their design creativity.
The prototypes will culminate in an installation titled “The Stories of Gift” at SingaPlural 2017. It is hoped that the installation will inspire visitors that with creativity, surfaces can go beyond the surface, they can give meaning, experiences and touch us on a personal level.
