“The Storytellers” is a group exhibition showcasing the works of five artists from the historic Singapore Academy of Arts. From 9th to 25th May 2025, viewers will be treated to paintings by pioneer female artist, Sun Yee, and her students Eng Siak Loy, Tong Chin Sye, Wee Kong Chai, and Yeo Kim Seng.
While the artists of the Academy do not adhere to a singular style, their works speak with a powerful, unspoken unity – each painting a compelling story, inviting the viewer to step into
its world. Each painting narrates a story, not through words but through the expressive language of brushwork and colour. Every stroke, hue, and composition forms a sentence in a visual narrative, shaped by each artist’s inner world, cultural memory, and response to their surroundings. Our artists are Storytellers in their own right, weaving personal and collective histories into their canvases. Their work invites viewers not merely to look, but to read, to feel, and to interpret – engaging in a silent dialogue that transcends language and time.
