‘This, That.’ is the first ever solo artist exhibition by multi-hyphenate Ginette Chittick – a woman of many firsts and wearer of many hats. The Singaporean musician-lecturer-DJ-wife-super mom now officially adds an ‘Artist’ beret to her mantel, with her latest body of works—crafted using mixed media of hand-spun yarn, wood and acrylic—now on full display at the Arts Club from 15 July to 5 September 2019. With ‘This, That.’, Chittick portrays yarn as the object of women’s craft while wood and acrylic are cut into geometric shapes informed by design principles. Just as the title This, That. suggests—and where she stands today as an artist, amongst the other roles she play—the works blur distinctions and defy definitions. They stand firmly at the intersection of art, design, craft and everything in between.
