ThisConnect: What Am I, If I Am Not

A multi-disciplinary fine arts exhibition that examines the different and intimate dimensions of our relationship with ourselves from our physical, emotional and mental bodies, these 5 works (namely Masks of Singapore, No Mud No Lotus, How Much Enough Is Enough, What Is My Truest Self, and Trauma Expression Series) curated are designed experientially to have participants and visitors be in touch with their bodies so that they can find the necessary healing and peace within their body, heart, mind, and bridge a deeper understanding of ourselves; our truths, the paths that we walk, and what it means to be whole and complete individuals.

The pieces in this exhibition reflect courage in the name of fear, resilience in the name of suffering, hope in the name of darkness, where one begins on a journey of unpeeling and unravelling the layers of masks and facades that we wear so that we can be truer and more powerful individuals in our own rights.

In times of crisis, how do we adapt and tap into our inner strengths and qualities so that we don’t lose ourselves and can hold ourselves true to what matters, true to the core of who we are? How do we ride the currents of life and evolve so that we’re able to progress and care for ourselves and the people around us? How do we bring ourselves back into our body so that we can be present, in the moment, and experience all the senses – sight, sound, smell, taste, and touch – that the moment brings? And in that moment, how do we become fully present, so that we can fully experience it, live it out, and do what we need to do to move forward powerfully?

These 5 bodies of work showcased meditate on bodily pain, suffering, expression, courage, love, discipline, integrity, vulnerability, and truths that are too often wiped and tainted with the illusions and delusions one has of life. And in turn, we seek to create an experience that brings forth greater clarity, greater connection, and greater harmony with oneself and our bodies such that one understands and connects to their higher truths which bring them the actualization of their own lives.

The mental health and fine arts exhibition, “THISCONNECT: WHAT AM I, IF I AM NOT” will be held from September through October during World Mental Health Month in conjunction with the Beyond The Label Festival, local social artist duo Hunny and Lummy, under ThisConnect.today.

Two other satellite venues where Masks of Singapore Photo Presentation and Selected Works will be showcased in Singapore include:
– Mint Museum of Toys (3 October 2020 to 31 March 2022)
– FUNAN Basement (1 November 2021 to 21 November 2021)

Venue: 39A Duxton Hill, Level 2, Singapore 089617
