When it first opened in 1887 as the Raffles Library and Museum, the institution was commonly referred to by the locals as Rumah Kitab – The House of Books. It was then the resource institution for Southeast Asian Zoology and Natural History research and studies. The Museum’s role and collection has since evolved considerably over the years. Co-organised by the Museum Volunteers, this one-hour tour of the museum offers insight on the history and stories behind Singapore’s oldest museum, and its journey to become the National Museum of Singapore.
Drawing inspiration from the tour, spend the afternoon sketching your favourite part of the museum building! Sketching materials are available for loan from the activity station at the Glass Atrium on Level 2, on 8 & 9 Aug between 10am – 4.30pm.
