Transmutations in the Image brings together four established artists Chen Shaoxiong, Cai Guangbin, Mao Xuhui, and Yue Minjun.
How to move from capturing images to breaking the mold is the challenge facing these four artists. Contemporary art is fundamentally rooted in problem-posing. In their early careers, they all used painting to raise questions, thereby developing a multidimensional and all-encompassing capacity for perception and social empathy.

– Chen Shaoxiong’s participatory works examining collective urban memory
– Cai Guangbin’s distilled ink paintings inspired by Bada Shanren
– Mao Xuhui’s poetic reflections on landscape and personal memory
– Yue Minjun’s iconic smiling figures reimagined through floral motifs and satire
