The exhibition Utopia will display many classic series of works by Shi Lifeng, including the highly acclaimed “Wall”, “Manipulation”, “Red Star”, “Dream Home”, “Peach Blossom Spring”, and this year’s new “Utopia” series, a total of 27 works.
Shi Lifeng occupies an important position in the field of contemporary art with his profound social insight and unique artistic expression. His works not only show the collective memory and historical imprint of Chinese society, but also deeply explore the survival status and spiritual dilemma of individuals in modern society. These works combine symbolism and realism, presenting multiple thoughts on power, control, freedom and dreams in a distinctive visual language.
In the “Wall” series, Shi Lifeng explored the opposition and tension between social structure and personal space with heavy red and symbolic composition; the “Manipulation” series expressed critical thinking on power relations and control mechanisms through metaphorical pictures; the “Red Star” series combined Chinese red with collective memory to reveal the interweaving and conflict between individual and collective consciousness in society.
The “Dream Home” series is the artist’s reflection and interpretation of the utopian ideal, and the works are full of explorations of the tension between ideals and reality; the “Peach Blossom Spring” series uses a poetic expression to show people’s yearning for an ideal country and their desire to escape reality.
The most eye-catching highlight of this exhibition is Shi Lifeng’s newly launched “Utopia” series of works. In this series, the artist uses more gloomy tones and solemn compositions to explore the anxiety and helplessness of modern people when facing internal and external pressures. Through complex spatial structures and strong color contrasts, Shi Lifeng successfully visualized this invisible psychological dilemma, calling on the audience to reflect deeply on the relationship between self and society.
