Late nights are for romance and romance on films. Every Friday evening in February, catch screenings of acclaimed director Hou Hsiao-Hsien’s Three Times (2005), starring Shu Qi and Chang Chen who bring an electrifying chemistry on screen.
Set across three eras – a pool hall in 1966, a 1911 parlour and contemporary Taipei in 2005 – these stories of love are sometimes wistful, occasionally optimistic, and conveyed with poetic intensity by the actors. Echoing the realism and signature long shots of his previous works, Hou takes a quiet but compelling approach in the intricacies of love and relationships over the span of a hundred years.
