We are S.E.A. is a group exhibition bringing together artists from across the region whose practices collectively reflect the breadth and nuance of Southeast Asia’s contemporary art landscape. The exhibition features works by Arahmaiani (Indonesia), Bao Vuong (Vietnam / France), Hoang Duong Cam (Vietnam), Htein Lin (Myanmar), Hu Qiren (Singapore), Oca Villamiel (Philippines), Pawarest Choksaen (Thailand), Wah Nu (Myanmar), Yeoh Choo Kuan (Malaysia), and Yim Maline (Cambodia).
Set within the gallery space, the audience experiences a moment of pause and encounter, an opportunity to experience the region’s artistic currents outside the tempo of the art fair. Working across diverse materials and forms, the artists consider the interplay of belief, memory and environment, revealing the ways in which their practices are rooted in lived experience yet open to global exchange.
From locally grounded narratives to culturally hybrid expressions, the exhibition reflects the diversity of practices that define the region’s contemporary art. Each artist brings a perspective shaped by the conditions and histories of their own contexts, underscoring how Southeast Asia’s creativity is driven by difference, locality and the constant negotiation between the personal and the collective.
The exhibition offers a contemplative view of how artists across the region continue to shape and redefine the language of contemporary art, through practices that are personal yet resonant, rooted yet fluid, and always in conversation with the world around them.
