The Singapore model of development and governance has often been described and celebrated as pragmatic. In this talk, Kenneth Paul Tan will discuss the ways in which the Singaporean nation-building project has been served by pragmatism, how it can be undermined by a debased form of pragmatism, and what dystopian futures we might expect if that happens.
