With You Here Between: Defamiliarizations presents works by emerging artists Dylan Chan, Fitri Ya’akob, Masuri Mazlan and Vimal Kumar who depict photography in different, more experiential ways, and touch on themes ranging from queer identity and the body, to spirituality and ecology, to yearning for home, and family. Collectively, their works celebrate living, and thriving, in the margins.
The show is curated by Elaine Thanya Marie Teo and Tekad Kolektif, the third recipient of Objectifs’ annual Curator Open Call, a developmental programme initated in 2019 to support curatorial research and innovative ways of presenting image-based work.
The exhibition will be accompanied by an extensive programme comprising not only opening performances, a curator’s tour and artist talk, but also an open call culminating in a poetry reading featuring five works responding to the exhibition’s themes, and three workshops introducing the public to cyanotype printing, floral arrangement and yantra cartography systems in relation to the exhibiting artists’ works.
