“ZHU WEI Works 2019 – 2023”, marks artist Zhu Wei’s (b.1966) return to Singapore with new works, following his last major presentation in 2013 at MOCA Singapore. Featuring a selection of his latest creations alongside early iconic pieces, spanning paintings and sculptures, the show delves into Zhu Wei’s ongoing journey of stylistic, formal, and technical evolution, transforming classical aesthetics into modern interpretations that offers audiences a multifaceted exploration of traditional and contemporary Chinese ink painting.
As the first artist to incorporate fine brush (Gongbi) painting techniques into Chinese contemporary art, Zhu Wei navigates time against the current, rooted in tradition yet carving out a new creative realm. His art bridges ancient and present, using classical forms to vividly portray contemporary social realities.
