Three outstanding individuals have been awarded the National Arts Council (NAC) Arts Scholarship this year. Scholarship recipients, Choy Siew Woon, Dee Chia Yu Teng and Ellison Tan Yuyang, will pursue postgraduate studies in conducting, arts research and theatre for young audiences respectively in the academic year 2020.
This year, NAC has committed over $200,000 to support talent development in the arts and culture sector through scholarships. This will help nurture promising individuals with the potential to drive the development of the Singapore arts and culture sector. As a first, the Scholarship has been awarded for research focused on contemporary artists and their impact on enabling a more inclusive society in Singapore. The broader range of disciplines supported by the Scholarship over the years also reflects the growth and maturity of the Singapore arts ecosystem.
NAC continues to engage the arts and cultural institutions through a structured approach to provide meaningful work and mentorship opportunities for recipients when they return from their studies. In addition, resources will be allocated to support recipients’ employment opportunities with the arts and cultural institutions. Through the Scholarship, NAC hopes to encourage talented individuals to pursue varied careers in the arts and culture sectors, and develop future leaders who inspire their peers and galvanise the arts and culture scene in Singapore.
