Are you an aspiring collector looking to dip your toes into the art market for the first time, but unsure where to start? Have you already begun to cut your teeth in the exciting, dynamic and unpredictable world of art collecting, but could benefit from some sage words of advice? Or are you a seasoned collector with a strong collection, wondering where to turn to next? Either way, this unique event is for you.

Jonathan Meese and Marc Straus

The Collectors’ Afternoon with Marc & Livia Straus offers a rare opportunity to peek into the minds of two of the contemporary art world’s most formidable collectors and museum founders. In this informal afternoon talk, Drs. Marc and Livia Straus will share their insights on art collecting, investment strategies and more.

Jeff Koons

Jeff Koons, 1985, Two Ball 50/50 Tank
(Spalding Dr. J. Silver Series, Spalding Dr. J. 241 Series)

The theme of the talk is “Building a collection with the greatest potential to increase in value”, with the following specific discussion points:

  • Highlights of the Straus’ private collection (Jeff Koons, Mark Rother, Anselm Kiefer, Elsworth Kelly)
  • Maximizing returns: The art market and investment strategies
  • Starting a private museum: About the Hudson Valley Center for Contemporary Art (HVCCA) in Peekskill, New York.

This is not only a great opportunity to meet and talk to collectors with a world class collection, but is also a valuable chance for local Asian collectors to get a New Yorker’s perspective on the art world.

Plus the timing of the talk, corresponding with 6th edition of Art Stage Singapore – Asia’s leading contemporary art fair, featuring 170 galleries from 33 countries and 30 global cities, with a strong showing of 75% Asia-based galleries – as well as the inaugural edition of Singapore Contemporary – a brand new art fair presenting a vibrant collection of investment-grade artworks with a strong secondary market and auction following – means that you could have the chance to put your newfound insights into immediate action.
