The sixth edition of Singapore International Photography Festival (SIPF) will be held from 6 September to 9 December 2018, presenting its biggest edition with 11 exhibitions and various public programmes around the theme Like You, Me, Everybody Else.
Building on the success of the previous five editions, SIPF 2018 will showcase works of esteemed and emerging contemporary photographers to a growing local and international audience. SIPF also continues its mission in promoting the art of photography and nurturing a community of photography enthusiasts through its public and education programmes. A record number of 50 workshops, seminars, portfolio review, film screenings and opening parties tailored to suit a diverse audience have been planned throughout the festival.
Since its establishment a decade ago, the independent festival has played a vital role in bringing in works of international creative talents to Singapore, spurring exchange of ideas and exposing local photography community to the latest trends and developments of the art in other parts of the world.
SIPF is delighted to present Between Love and Death: Diary of Nobuyoshi Araki. Staged at the festival home (DECK), the deeply moving exhibition delves into the heart of Araki’s relationship with his wife, Yoko. It is the largest exhibition of acclaimed Japanese photographer Nobuyoshi Araki that has been shown in Singapore, featuring his earliest and latest works. The installation is rated Advisory 16 (some nudity).
In 2018, SIPF will feature 19 local artists, the highest local representations in a single edition. One of the festival highlights is Singapore by local photographer Nguan which will be exhibited at Gillman Barracks. It is the first time a local artist has been selected for a solo exhibition in this carefully curated festival.
SIPF 2018 also sees a new category added to its flagship Open Call programme – Photobook. The fast growing interest in photobooks as an art form worldwide has paved a new way for showcasing and appreciating photography in Asia. The inaugural edition of Photobook Showcase will be staged at National Design Centre displaying 82 photobooks shortlisted by an international panel. The showcase will travel to other Asian cities after the Singapore debut.
