Organised for the first time by Arts House Limited (AHL) and in conjunction with the Singapore Night Festival (SNF), Stamford Arts Centre (SAC) will light the night with over 20 interactive traditional arts programmes for A Date with Tradition. During the last weekend of SNF, 26 and 27 August, visitors will get the chance to soak in the charm and richness of our ethnic arts and enjoy two delightful evenings of festivities at SAC.
Festival patrons can expect two evenings of activities where they can try their hands at Indian rangoli by Singa Rangoli and Chinese calligraphy by Chinese Calligraphy Society of Singapore, add their own twist to a shadow puppetry play by Paper Monkey Theatre, and stitch a simple motif at Sulam Circle by Heath Yeo. Get further insight into traditional art forms through Get-To-Know sessions with groups such as Traditional Arts Centre (Singapore) sharing more about the characteristics and artistic form of Chinese opera during The Charm of Chinese Opera.
SAC will come alive with a myriad of multicultural performances spanning a wide range of art forms. Groove to Percussive Rhythms by well-loved Chinese chamber music ensemble Ding Yi Music Company and explore the unique soundscape of multi-racial music group, SwaRhythm Ensemble with Singapore Rhapsodies. For dance enthusiasts, ignite one’s imagination with the fluid motions of Shantha Ratii Initiatives through Indian Rainbow and delight in reimagined performances of Malay Dance gestures with Mass Delay by P7:1SMA.
Experience art installations by local artists such as Culture and Harmony by Leo Hee Tong and Celebration of Life+Style by Justin Lee, and check out treats from crowd-favourite restaurants, Stack and Tipo Pizzeria e Trattoria.
