the five of us, a group of theatre practitioners, is presenting A Light Journey, an original short film created by integrating light, sound, text and puppetry. It follows the journey of a light beam and its adventures.
Premiering on 18 December 2020, 8pm, on their Facebook and Youtube page, A Light Journey is inspired by Lighting Designer Liu Yong Huay’s thesis about informed play. In her thesis, Liu investigates how the act of playing seeks to reveal the raw emotions in us that often hide deeper with age.
With the advent of Covid-19, A Light Journey was born out of the need to continue the process of play through chance encounters and the small moments that make up our day-to-day life. The main element chosen for the process was light.
Accompanying the short film is a behind-the-scenes and do-it-yourself video where the audience can get to know more about the importance of informed playing in a lighting designer’s process and how they can embark on their own light journeys in the comfort of their homes.
A Light Journey will be available for free online from 18 – 31 December 2020. It is created with support from the National Arts Council’s Digital Presentation Grant for the Arts.
